This dish requires lots of sweetness because of the turnips which can be overpowering, but all the ingredients – when made sweet enough – make this veggie dish a lovely add-on.

I sliced both the carrots and turnips very finely using a Magimix Food Processor. I find that when I do that, it cuts down cooking time a lot so that the nutrients in the veggies are preserved as far as possible.

I made this dish to add to cheesy chickpeas, butternut, basmati rice and spinach and potato. Divine!

A much better alternative to the traditional South African rys, vleis en aartappels!
